The Quiet- Poem of Lagos

The Quiet

Honking horn

Crowing rooster

Peddlers selling fabrics worn

Brakes squeal

Birds squabble

Children begging for their meal

Generator roar

Cooled air blows

The guards screening at gate door

Cars splash

Gardener mows

Chickens pecking in the trash

Buses groan

Hot fence hums

Dehumidifiers moan

Kids at play

Rain drops splat

Mosque is calling time to pray

Intercom beep

Bored dogs howl

Offspring never go to sleep

Down I’ve lain

Ear plugs in

Why does silence cause me pain?

Full of thoughts

Busy brain

Lagos noise it never stops.
